What for? We already have Tinychat and Skype for something like this.

They do work similarly, but they are quite different from IRC
Tinychat requires you to sign up for an account, or sign in to join the chat.
Skype requires you to download the application to your computer, then sign up for it/login, and thennnnnn you also have to both be added to each other's contact lists...
With IRC, it's just a simple click and join, they have sites like mibbit so you just put a username in and go talk!
I dunno, I have an account at Tinychat, a Skype, and I like the IRC channel... but whatever works best for you I guess.
