....I can think of at least six currently active members with musical ability, Rena.

I was always under the impression that it was given for... well, musicality - both on the performing end and the listening end. Because of the diversity of the field, I've never seen a problem with it being meritorious. Aside from actual performance, there's remixing, theory, the more commercial aspect - all of which have been discussed on the forum at length.

But if award's gone, it's gone. At this point, I figure fooling around with what awards are/aren't being given will do more harm than good.

Ah well, there aren't many musical members today as there used to be from the last two years. Most of them are either busy, one with a personal reason to leave. So there wouldn't be too much to nominate.
Woah ho ho now. Me, LotD, Zsep, Schiavo would beg to differ. For the love of Chist it's one of my favourite awards because music is so diverse.

It a real shame to see you guys discard that award so promptly - I honestly think it holds more weight in some respects than something like "Best Quote", because you're praising an art that's difficult to produce, but the response is phenominal. I understand why it exists but "Best Quote" is one of my least favourite awards because it is, at its core, an easy way to mock another member without actually saying to their face. [see LOLcayter's signature]

I honestly could care less whether someone says something stupid (or even if such quotes are in another member's signature), but a badge should not be created for this purpose.

I forgot, jeez. I retract my statement. But I didn't say I agree to get rid of the musical award, I'm actually wondering why it should be changed myself. -violin player, yet doesn't talk about it much-

But yeah, those changes are too sudden. I mean, really, the awards could have been sorted out by all of us, not just two people handpicking out things themselves. I'm not saying anything bad, really, just saying. :D

And as for the "Best Quote", some are funny and some are stupid... but it is more of a mocking nowadays.

xD Believe it or not, you were the first out of the six.

But yeah, the award's a great idea and all, and I've always loved it, but a part of me really doesn't want to risk pushing the dates back with our indecisiveness. (Not to mention, we've got our trophy maker to take into consideration...)

How would we judge musical talent? I haven't heard any of you guys play, I don't think any of the newbies have either. I removed it for that reason.

Guys, I think you are forgetting that this is supposed to be FUN, so have fun with it, but don't take it this seriously. You're going to spoil what's fun about this. In the end, the awards were chosen as the most common collection of what people wanted to be included in the awards. There are still negative awards but we cut down on the number and exchanged a few for more positive ones.

I want to make this clear, we CANNOT please everyone. Nor will we try to. It's not possible or feasible in any way. You can tell just from the last few posts that quite a lot of members have a difference of opinion of how this should be. And continuing to argue about this after the nominations have been set is really only going to take away from the fun this is supposed to entail.

Oh I see now. But didn't Charon and Restie show their work? :/

But spoiling is fun! -shot- Just kidding.

But anyway, I suppose that's understandable. I was just curious is all. I'm a little sad it's taken out, but I guess the last thing we need is complicated situations. Let's see what happens. :P

Keep the musical Award, it would be a shame to let it go. I'm also one of those musical members and perhaps we could do this as an exception. Members nominate themselves, but they must also submit a recorded piece.

Also include synthesized music. I write my own stuff but most the time it's in MIDI format.

If we allow for a sample it would be easy for others to compare, judge and vote.

If you can organize it, set it up, get everyone involved to jump onboard and have all the samples ready by midnight tonight in time for the nominations to be open I will re-add it.

That's a point. Maybe it's a little late for it this year, but why not next year? Sounds like a pretty nifty way to win an award.

Thanks go to Rena for the sig of awesomeness~

I'm sorry, but you cannot honestly say you appreciate an honest musical competition when you want it to be judged over a couple MIDI samples. Real musicians everywhere just cried a little, I think.

I get the feeling this will turn into some sort of flame war now...

As for the music thing, I assume you (ZO) are capable of doing something better, seeing how quick you are to bash Charon (again).

All the musical geniuses started with MIDI. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, ect. Check the history books, people.
