Research on... a culture.
« on: July 13, 2011, 04:31:22 am »
Okay, I'll accept help from anyone, though wouldn't mind assistance from those native to the states of New Mexico and Texas, particularly places such as Houston, Del Rey, San Antonio, any other places I'm clueless about >.>".

I'm doing a bit of extensive research on the culture and lingo of Southwest Texas (or south east if you're from Houston and San Antonio), particulary on the outliers, places people would normally not consider... hospitable.

I want to get as many details as I can before I start work on this project of mine, and any assistance will be appreciated. While my search is actually rather vague I do have select details I'd like info on.

I'm interested in the chicano peoples, as well as Calo dialect, street life in the slums, and various gangs.

I don't expect much, but anything is appreciated.
I will be looking for information elsewhere, from more specialized sites, but I know I suck at researching what I need when its a larger scale research.

History is always accepted, I prefer to have context.

Thanks in advance for anything posted here.

Since it sounds like you're doing research on a specific culture, you should start with some anthropology journals. Look up ethnographic research done on the people you're trying to research (Chicanos, in this case)

JSTOR is a great place to start. There are alsoi a ton of other search engines out there for this type of stuff.

-facepalms-

I've been tossing the word anthropology around all day today and I totally fogot to even consider using those.

Gah.
Thanks.
I'll be sure to check this out.

I'm also looking for regional information, but that's a bit easier.

Does this possibly, maybe have something to do with your rp section idea thingy?

Completely unrelated.
This actually will be put forth in my research of the hispanic culture overall, as well as being used in securing accurate information in my stories past, present and future.
I dislike accuracy, and if I can have as many resources as I can get on this, as well as actually paying attention to this sort of thing, I believe it could be quite beneficial to not only my stories, but to practical life as well.

But in no way does this relate to either my RP section idea...
Or the RP I'm running currently.

I'll send you and Shadow the details if I garner enough interest from the RP locals. If not, then, it'll be a no go.

'kay, just thought it might have been considering some of the things you asked about.
dialect=NPC speech style
history=NPC motive/bacstory
etc.
That and I'm hungry for details.
