The Nations of Angara
« on: October 15, 2011, 01:59:58 pm »
I know it's a bit nerdy, but I knocked together this map of the various nations in Angara (including major cities, independent cities, towns and regions which aren't part of a nation) using information from the game.
Note 1: I see the 'Adepts Valley' area, as I called it, as a region under the protection of the adepts, but obviously not directly ruled by them (an NPC mentions that some nations didn't like the fact that the adepts were in control of the valuable Konpa ruins, so they have at least some power over the surrounding lands).
Note 2: Despite being only one city, Kaocho is often described as a nation. It's unclear just how much territory they claim to own, so I drew a conservative estimate of the boundaries)

This is a map of Sana under Emperor Ko (sometime during the 30 years between the end of TLA and the start of DD). Khiren Glacier has a dashed line around it as according to a villager in Te Rya, the mountains were historically a battleground, so presumably Sana had varying levels of control over the area.

Continuing how? I made them pretty quickly, but I could produce something more detailed if you'd like.

Never mind, I just looked at them again, they seem pretty complete.

Looks good.

I would extend Kaocho to have a dotted line around Ayuthay - they're there and they should technically have possession of it, but... you know, they don't.

Nearly flawless, nice job.

I should probably save it for later use.

They don't as far as we know. Because, yeah, the guards are dead.

Unless Kaocho(In a sense Tuaparang) took siege of Ayuthay again for whatever reason.

I'm with sunsoulaevis on this, during the events of DD Kaocho attacks Ayuthay but never conquers it, I think we can safely say they never had control over the city itself.

Hmm never realized this took on during the game. I knew there was conflict, but didn't realize it extended this far. Good work.

Yes, but ... in that case, I'm not sure that it's really correct to define Kaocho as having much of a border at all. Ei Jei is more a region than a nation, and I'm pretty sure it encompasses Kaocho. Yes, Kaocho is trying to conquer all or most of Ei Jei, but it isn't at war with some unified country. It's just a city trying to conquer other cities in the region. Personally, I think it'd be better to just label Kaocho as a city rather than trying to illustrate a Kaochan border. If you do try to show it as an aspiring nation, I'd at least do a dotted line or something.

Ei Jei isn't supposed to be a country on my map, it doesn't have borders for that reason. My reasoning for Kaocho having a border is laid out in note 2, dashed lines etc. would confuse things in my opinion.

My point is that it's already confusing inasmuch as there's really nothing that properly demonstrates what you're defining as a nation, what you're defining as a region, and what you're defining as a city. Sana is a nation, but its boundaries are pretty much just as open as those of Ei Jei, which is a region. Instead, you should, like, shade countries as colors with a key, write regional names in all caps across the region they encompass, and then write city names with initial caps next to colored dots that match their national affiliations or something.
Born of different worlds, woven together by fate, each shall rise to face their destiny.

I guess if you don't know the reigon names and nations that well, It can be confusing.

At least the information is mostly right, it's just that it's not so organized.
