Global warming/Humanity's fate

So do you think humans are speeding up the natural process? Do you even believe in global warming? Do you think it'll end up affecting the Human race in the future?

I just made this thread because it was eating another. lol

Everyone complains about earth getting hotter now when 40,000,000 years ago temperatures would be as high for extended periods (March - September) as 55-65'C in some areas which are now barely scraping 10's and 12's. I am wary of natures catastrophic abilities but mankind will not be to blame when the ice caps finally melt. If anything, we've merely accelerated what was meant to happen there. And some animals (Polar Bears, Penguins, etc.) will be lost because of it but we can't save them all so somewhere along the line, we're gonna lose something.

Hippies annoy me :3 jk

We've definitely accelerated it, that's my entire point.  The human population can try to cut back, but I'm afraid that the domino effect has already been set into motion. You said we're not to blame, but we are partly to blame.

You also said:

Yes, it is a natural occurrence, but it was something that was made worse by humanity's interference. I had a bio class that talked about it a lot last semester. There's different carbon sinks, eventually the carbon does end up with no place to go. Trees and other organisms can only hold so much. So where does it go? The atmosphere. And the amount has been greatly increased by human industrialization.

Yes, global warming has always been legit since the dawn of everything. And thats the thing, its natural, its not anything we alone cause. Just look at Venus, and possibly Mars. Earth has always had climate changes. No, what we do is speed this natural process up. Animal and plant life can adapt to theses climate changes...when they come naturally and slowly. Too fast and there is barely any time to adapt. Of course there is alot of uncertainty just how much we are speeding it up and just how much the temperature need to rise to truly ### things up beyond repair but yeah, just look at simple data and statistics and the numbers show an increase in global average temperature year, after year, after year. It's silly to deny such clear facts, but the media is always the media and they make it seem like global warming is unnatural and the world will end tomorrow because of this.

So long story short: Yes, its a natural occurence even on other planets (Venus is an oven on grand scale) but we are clearly giving it a push like we do with many other natural things, events and phenomenons.

And what are we doing? Having big important meetings where everyone agrees that we need to cut the emissions but I won't if you wont do this and I wont if you don't do that etc etc. Back and forth. The big emission nations sign papers but they don't wanna be a part of it. In the far future they'll change their mind.

Yep. But wil it be too late? This article is an interesting theory on how it will play out and honestly is a more optimistic outlook, which I love. There are of course some stipulations, like would the polar caps melt before then? And we lose land not only to the oceans, but ice and snow as well, suddenly making humanity feel claustrophobic. We need to stop being stubborn and make a change before we accidentally destroy our means to live. At this rate we are only making future of humanity more difficult. It's not that it all isn't irreversible, though, (like the article states) at least not yet. And I sound like a preaching new age hippie, but that's how I feel.
