Youtube force closing on Android phone... :/
« on: June 03, 2012, 01:04:07 am »
Pretty much self-explanatory. I go to youtube's mobile site and it force closes every single video that loads. It had worked before...but yeah. The App still works, but I like the mobile site a lot more... And this happens whether on wifi or 3g. Anyone had this problem or has Youtube changed something?

No problem here. Try the usual - delete and reinstall the app and try again.

EDIT: Oops read it again you meant the site. Works fine for me just like the app.

What phone do you use?

It's a Samsung Infuse. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the flash player but it came perset and won't allow such. Then I went to the store and updated the flashplayer, still nothing...

Hm. Maybe it has something to do with the current version of the OS? You're running 2.3 (Gingerbread)?

Honestly, I have no clue.... I have the latest software update from AT&T, though, I have no clue if that affects it's Operating System or not. It pops up with "Sorry, this video cannot be played" but other sites adapted for mobile that stream video play just fine as does the desktop version of youtube....it's puzzling.

The only times Youtube does that on mine, is when the available memory(not storage) gets overloaded and the phone is forced to cut the browser off. If you can pay attention to how much of your ram is being used at any one time, you'll be able to avoid this more easily. Apps like advanced task killer task killer and zdbox are quite useful in measuring and managing your ram usage.
It really helps not to use too many apps and/or processes at once, because they will slow each other down or make the other larger memory using programs(like the browsers and youtube) become inoperable.
The phone can only handle so much at a time, so even if everything else is working as it should, your available ram can be a hinderance if unchecked.
I use 2.3.2(gingerbread once again) if it makes a difference, so our phones operate similarly.

edit: Then it sounds like a problem with the file type that was being used for some of the videos or a signal issue.

It has a ram manager preinstalled, it is usually hovering around the 300 mark of the available 429... It actually doesn't alert me with a force close on m.youtube like it has done in the past with other applications, but does the single then immediate double vibrate like it does when it force closes.

Signal shouldn't be a problem either, I'm on wifi (previously 3g and not edge) with decent signal strength atm. And all videos on youtube's mobile site do this, not just certain ones.
